The deeply meaningful life of Fuad Efendiyev as an innovator scientist with innate talent, a pure and rare person, the honorable path he passed is a lesson in life and spirituality, a school of improvement and wisdom for every citizen of Azerbaijan, every scientist and doctor. About his scientific, medical and pedagogical activity, his high moral qualities, which are an example for everyone, many articles, books and works have been written and will be written. The rich scientific heritage of Fuad Efendiyev, his research in various fields of hematology and surgery, his achievements, fundamental works are a bright page in Azerbaijani medical science.

Efendiev Fuad Aladdin oglu was born on February 23, 1909 in the village of Ashuri, Akhalt-Sikhsky district, Tbilisi province. In 1928 he graduated from the medical faculty of the Azerbaijan State University.

F. Efendiev defended his dissertations in philosophy (1934) and doctor of sciences (1942) and was awarded the academic title of professor.

Elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (1959).

F. Efendiyev, Head of the 2nd Department of Optional Surgery (now Surgical Diseases) of the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute (1944-1963), Deputy Director of the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (1960) of the Republican Blood Transfusion Station. Research Institute of Tuberculosis, Head of the Lung Surgery Department of the Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan SSR (1943-1952), Head of the Surgery Department of the 4th General Directorate (1946-1963).

F. Efendiyev was one of the prominent world-famous scientists in the field of thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery and blood transfusion. The main direction of his scientific activity was the treatment and surgery of diseases of the chest, hematology, blood transfusion, and the study of blood coagulation problems. He was also engaged in surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, pleural empyema, purulent inflammation of the lungs. Under his leadership, the foundations of cardiac surgery, surgical hematology, anesthesiology and experimental surgery were first created in Azerbaijan, and then these areas were developed in the form of separate research institutes. He proposed an original method that makes it easy to determine the presence of a blood infection in the pleural cavity. This method was known in the USSR and abroad as the “Efendiev test”. The scientist created special tools and devices to facilitate operations on the lungs and showed that hemothorax can be treated with an express method.

F. Efendiev was the author of more than 200 scientific papers, 3 monographs, textbooks and teaching aids, scientific and methodological guidelines, inventions and effective proposals. Under his leadership and leadership, 9 sciences and 14 doctoral dissertations were defended. F. Efendiyev participated with reports in international congresses, conferences and symposiums held in a number of countries of the world, many articles were published in the foreign press.

F. Efendiyev was a member of the International Society of Hematologists, the International Association of Surgeons, was twice elected a deputy of the Baku City Council, 4 times a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, awarded the honorary titles of Honored Doctor, Honored Scientist of the Republic. Orders of the “Red Star”, “Red Banner of Labor” , medals “For the Defense of the Caucasus”, “For Selfless Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.” and “Start. USSR”, “Sanitary Minister of the USSR” Fiya Alahisi “was awarded a badge. The doctoral dissertation of F. Efendiev, published in the form of a monograph, as well as the “express” method proposed by him for hematothorax, which is of great theoretical and practical importance, were awarded the “Academician N.N. Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1949).

F. Efendiyev, together with Academician Petrovsky, who came to Azerbaijan from Moscow, saved another patient from death by performing a severe heart operation on the patient, but, unfortunately, on the same day – September 20, 1963, the great scientist himself died suddenly.

Academician F. Efendiyev was a modern outstanding scientist of his time, he was one of the researchers who stood at the top of Azerbaijani science.

At present, exhibits reflecting the life and work of the outstanding scientist Fuad Aladdin oglu Efendiyev are exhibited at the stands and showcases of the Museum of Medicine of Azerbaijan.
