VI HALL

      During the years of the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people against the Nazi invaders, Azerbaijan provided the active Red Army not only with fuel and lubricants, weapons, but also with their combat participation on the battlefields; at the front and in the rear, health workers of the republic are told by numerous materials of the museum of the period of the Great Patriotic War. Here are photographic documents, and reports from evacuation hospitals, and other materials. Dioramas are shown: an episode of crossing the Kerch Strait, where the orderly Samed Abdullayev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously) for his heroism; the feat of the medical instructor Mamed Mamedov, who died heroically in Germany while rescuing wounded soldiers, for which he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union; arrival at the railway station in Baku of an ambulance train with the wounded; another diorama reproduces the operating room of academician Mustafa Topchibashev (chief surgeon of the republic’s evacuation hospitals).

Of particular interest are materials telling about the partisan doctor Aliya Rustambekova, the original of her last letter from the partisan detachment “Grandfather”.
